Happy days...

          

We're heading to the coast for a long weekend, my hometown of Corpus Christi.  Hopefully we'll be going to the beach.  It'll be Solan's first time.  Happy weekend!

I'm gonna be a TIA...

That's right.  It's pronounced, tee-ah in Spanish.  I'm gonna be an Aunt!!!   My sister, Gabi, is due very soon.  In matter of fact, it could be this week.  I'm excited.  It's one thing to have your own wee one.  It's another to be an Aunt and I'm excited about that.  I hope it's a girl.  I really do.  But if it's not, well, boys are the best!   

She had a baby shower this weekend, #2, and it was fun.  Solan and I showed up late, very late.  I had lunch with an old friend.  But we got there, finally.

I made her this dress inspired by the one my Mama made me with Solan.  It's hot in Texas ya know?!

Also, I made these wee shoes.  Especially since I gave her a bunch of other goodies at her last shower....aren't they the cutest!!? I will be making more of them.  They are made of felt and the bottoms of vinyl.  And I got the pattern from Heather's blog. I had a blast making them.  They are definately newborn size.  So more than likely this wee one will only be able to wear them for a couple of days, possibly a week.   

Well, I guess I better continue sending out my "Tia" vibes...here they go!

 

My feet...

Today, my feet were waiting.  Waiting for a dance rehearsal that didn't happen.  Why didn't it happen well, I think something about a key.  So there I was.  All alone in the big studio.  Just me and my feet...waiting, waiting.  And then all of a sudden, I thought of where my feet have been.

They've been around. 

Overseas. 

In the ocean.

In foreign lands. 

In strange situations. 

I could go on and on about my feet.

Many things to be thankful for...

I don't know if this happens to you...but there are many, beautiful moments in my life where I realize I have forgotten to be thankful.   

Remembering memories with this beautiful voice.   

Feeling spiritually uplifted after seeing her. 

And her.

For this fun idea that I'm a part of and you should be too.

Yay, my first shirt....

Here it is!!  My very first shirt!  It was so easy and a bit inspired by Crystal's.  I made the shirt a tad too tight around the chest, so I know what to do for the next one I make.  I have 6 yards of this  beautiful, cotton sari material that I purchased  a summer ago and its been lying around, just begging to be used.  I plan on making some billowy pants as well.

I'm also making a necklace along with some other crafty things that I'll post at a later date.

Happy Father's Day, Aaron!  You are an amazing dad and Solan loves you so!  Hope you have a wonderful day.  We love you!  And don't forget, in Solan's little voice, "THE PAPA'S READY!!!!"

Morning rain...

We woke up this morning to loud claps of thunder.  Solan has been waking up early and today was no exception.  But, it was raining!  Recently, I received an email from someone asking me and several other people to pray for rain.  Well, it did!  I opened the blinds and the windows, with Solan gazing intently on the wet stuff.  We went out to the front porch and here are a few fun pics of little Solanito.  He wanted to go run and play in it, he pretty much did just that.  It was around 730a Central/Standard Time.  We love the rain!!!!

This morning, we're listening to Solan's favorite CD.  He calls this CD, The Upright Bass.  And yes, it contains the upright, but it's The Wood Brothers!  We love this CD!  In matter of fact, all 3 of us saw them at an in-store at Waterloo Records, one of Austin's lovely record stores.  I just had to capture this photo of him (it's a little fuzzy), enjoying the music....
Mary says, "Mmmm, it's not enchiladas, it's not chalupas.  What is that yummy smell?"  Mary, it's a macrobiotic dish called "Tempeh with Arame."  My dear friend Claudia and macro-chef extrordinaire gave me this recipe.  Yum!  Hubby ate it all!  Solan was a little wierded out with the arame, but for the most part, he enjoyed it too.  I'll post the recipe later.

Monday, was the deadline for proposals for First Night Austin 2007.  FNA happens on New Year's Eve and the entire downtown and surrounding areas of Austin are lit up with artists, musicians, dance, you name it!  There are many on-site or installation art works.  And there's a grand procession.  Look at this photo from last year's FNA.

I will be collaborating with my dear neighbor, artist/sculptor, Brooke.   Basically, it's a collaboration of installation art, dance, and music.  Of course, I would be in charge of the dancers.  The theme involves "a sense of renewal" or a mother and child relationship, etc.  If we are chosen, we won't here from the directors of the event until August!  AUGUST?!  Gosh.  Well, please say a little prayer for us.  It would be an amazing opportunity to have a work "commissioned" by the City of Austin and First Night.  Woo hoo! 

I'm still crafting.  I have so many ideas. More soon....

I'm gonna be in a book(let)

Today I was photographed for Robert Leal's, Thai Massage instructional booklet.  This booklet will be used for his upcoming classes and workshops.  His daughter took about 16 photos, so it was pretty easy.  If you've never had a thai massage, I highly recommend one.  It's such an intense,  physical manipulation of the body.  If feels amazing.  I love it!  He's going to give me a free session for trade and he'd like me to help him with some research.  He's looking for yoga practitioners to participate in Rolfing sessions.  More manipulation of the body, a little more massage, but ultimately release of "held or bound" muscles.  This can be emotional baggage that your muscles are clinging to or just physical tightness that may cause emotional triggers.  Rolfing is also amazing.  Most of these photos were taken close-up.                                           

Today I plan on being a bit crafty.  I've been busy making a few things.  But I want to finish everything before I post.  Happy Sunday!
